Yesterday my husband (Brandon) and I went wine tasting in Napa Valley, for my husbands Aunt Julie's 50th birthday party. We had such a wonderful time.
We all met up at 9am... I know early, right?? We showed up just as the Excersion limo showed up. Brandon and I both eyeballed eachother as we saw the limo pulled up, because we knew at that point, we were going to be in for a very long and exciting day. All of Julies friend showed up about 20min later and we were all looking forward to this great adventure ahead of us!
As we all piled into the huge limo, we were excited about the, sort of, disco theme with lights, and mirrors inside of the limo. The drive up there was beautiful, however, I only looked out of the limo a couple of times. I think I was destracted by the bar, with tons of bottles of wine, and that awsome bottle of tequila. We started with mamosas and drank a couple of bottles of wine on the rest of the way to Napa Valley.
The first Winery we went to was the Castello di Amorosa. It was soooooo beautiful. This Winery was actually built to reflect the exact look, and feel, of a medieval european castle. If you didnt know any better, you would swear it's been there for hundreds of years. The castle actually began construction in 1993 and wasnt completed untill 2007. The Castello di Amorosa is also child friendly, and would be a great place to bring the kiddos to expierence the closest thing your going to find to an authentic castle.
The Castello di Amorosa has a wonderful variety of wines to choose from. If you go for the tasting you only get to sample 5 different wines, so choose wisely.
Here are my suggestions:
White:
Gioia, Rosato di Sangiovese, Price per bottle $24
Wewurztraminer, Dolcino, Price per bottle $24
Red:
Pinot Nero, Price per bottle $36
Sangiovese, Price per bottle $30
Sweet Wines:
Simpatica, Resling, Price per bottle $27
La Fantasia, Price per bottle $29
After all our tasting, and the booze we had in the car, I'm sure you can only imagine what a great time we all were having. I was so buzzed I'm pretty sure I said a couple of things I shouldn't have, and I also dropped the F-Bomb a few times. Haha! This stay at home mom was really taking advantage of the chance to go out and have a great time...that's for sure!
The next place we headed to was the V. Sattui Winery. This is a very family friendly place, with wonderful food, and great BBQ. This place would be great for a romantic date, or just a nice picknick with the family. I ordered the Spicy Itallian Sandwhich, and it was great (for the price it should be). I paid about $10 for a sandwhich, and my husband paid about $13 for a tri-tip sandwhich straight off the BBQ.
I also found this great little hidden payphone while I was on my way to the bathroom.
After our bellies were full, and our buzzes were wearing off, we headed to the wine tasting area. This place had a huge selection of wines. They also didn't limit us to a certain number of tastings. I was able to sample all the wines I wanted too, so I pretty much drank as much as she would poor for me. The woman serving us (I didnt get her name, I was pretty much too buzzed to care at that point) was really sweet, and even poured us some of the reserve wines too, which run about 80 dollars a bottle. She also explained to me the difference between a Dry Riesling and just a regular Riesling. A Dry Riesling isnt as sweet as the regular Riesling. I bought the Dry Riesling. I would definetly recommend anyone to make the trip to the V. Sattui Winery.
Here are my suggestions:
Chardonnay, Carsi
Chardonnay, RESERVE
Dry Riesling (I bought this one)
Anderson Valley Riesling
Pinot Noir, Sattui Family
Syrah, Napa Valley
Cabernet, Mt. Veeder
My husband Brandon and I had such a great time. We both met a great new group of charismatic silly jokesters, that I hope to spend more time with in the future. They're great new friends with a common interest in booze, and anything that can make someone laugh untill they pee. I'm so greatul to have been be a part of Julie's 50th birthday party. Happy Birthday Julie!!!!!!
